Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California is pleased to name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as our Muslim of the Week!
There have been countless things said and written about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He is one of the most famous Muslim figures in US history, not to mention basketball players. He is a recipient of numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom bestowed upon him by then-president Barack Obama.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the most well-known American Muslims in history. Abdul-Jabbar converted to Islam in 1968 and has served as a figure of the faith ever since.
His influence on the world is more than can be put into words. He remains the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. He is second to Michael Jordan as the best NBA player in history, according to ESPN. Abdul-Jabbar continues to inspire incredible numbers of people, not only for his work on the court but his various ventures outside of basketball. He is a best-selling author. He served as cultural ambassador to the United States during the Obama administration.
