The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California is pleased to name Milia Islam-Majeed as our Muslim of the Week!
Milia shows determination in bringing people together through their differences. She does this through her work at the Southern Coast Interfaith Council (SCIC). As Milia puts it, “My passion lies in creating opportunities for the interfaith community to come together not despite of their different faiths but because of them so as to truly see that, at the end of the day, we are much more alike than different as brothers and sisters in humanity.”
Milia’s personal journey helped mold this way of thinking. As Milia describes, “I grew up in a small mid-western town in Missouri where we were the only Muslim family amidst 10,000+ predominantly conservative Christians. A life that started with receiving death threats from the members of the town blossomed into some of the greatest friendships my family and I have been blessed to have developed when people were able to overcome the fear of something that they didn’t fully understand and really connect on a human level.”
For her commitment toward togetherness through differences, Milia Islam-Majeed is our newest Muslim of the Week.
