Islamic Shura Council of Southern California Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza

(Southern California, January 15, 2025) – The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, representing Islamic Centers and organizations across the region, commends the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached today. This development offers a glimmer of hope amid a genocide that caused one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of our time and represents a crucial step toward alleviating the immense suffering endured by the people of Gaza.

The Shura Council mourns the loss of over 46,000 lives and more than 110,000 injured, including countless children, women, and elderly victims. We also honor the memory of the hundreds of medical professionals, journalists, and humanitarian workers who made the ultimate sacrifice in their efforts to aid those in need.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the thousands of students, activists, organizations, and faith leaders in Southern California who tirelessly brought the plight of Palestinians to the forefront of the public consciousness. Their unwavering commitment has amplified voices that demand justice and compassion.

As we acknowledge this milestone, the Shura Council underscores the ongoing struggle for justice in Palestine. We call upon all individuals and organizations to continue their activism and advocacy, urging the United States public officials to reassess its policies and unconditional support of Israel in its brutal occupation of Palestine. Only through adherence to international law and the pursuit of justice can lasting peace be achieved.

Islamic Shura Council is the umbrella organization of Muslim organizations and Mosques serving over three-quarters of a million Muslims in Southern California.

In response to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles and the profound loss and hardship they have caused, we extend our deepest prayers and unwavering support to all those impacted. This unprecedented tragedy is the cause of the devastating destruction of dozens of structures including Masjid Al-Taqwa in Altadena, as well as the thousands of homes and businesses that have been lost. Our thoughts are with you during this challenging time, and we stand together in solidarity as we work towards recovery and healing.

The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California (ISCSC), as an umbrella Muslim organization, has called upon its members to offer a special prayer called Salat-al-Istisqa’ (The rain prayer) that is usually conducted in the occasion of drought, scant rainfall, and the drying up of springs. We are encouraging our community to donate generously to the Shura Council special fund on LaunchGood designated to the LA Wildfire, that will be used for this cause only.

We call upon our community to participate and join in the Salat-al-Istisqa’ (the special prayer for rain) offered by your local masjid and remember all those affected by these devastating fires in your prayer and express your appreciation and gratitude to the firefighters, first responders, and emergency personnel for their selfless dedication. As communities of faith, besides praying for all victims, we pledge to share our resources, time, and efforts to not only rebuild what was destroyed but also bring renewed hope, resilience, and tangible aid to those most affected.

We also call on federal, state, and local agencies to ensure that all impacted communities receive the support necessary to recover fully in a timely fashion.

100% of funds will support recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Please donate now and share the link with your community and network: https://www.launchgood.com/LAfires
